Helgi Maki is the lead co-author of a collaborative book on legal innovation called Trauma-Informed Law: A Primer for Lawyer Resilience and Healing published by the American Bar Association (Practice Management Division). The book is being used to support improvements in legal practice for challenging conflicts in a number of jurisdictions in the United States and Canada, and is held in over 600 law school libraries and university libraries around the world.
In addition, Helgi has provided training for or spoken at judicial training conferences, legal bar associations, law schools and law firms. Helgi provides training and coaching to help legal professionals navigate challenging legal situations using resilience skills, based on her book and her wider executive coaching practice.Previously, Helgi was an equity partner at a large law firm in Toronto and received her law degree from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. She also worked with a global leader in legal technology and data analytics. She also has an M.A. in public policy (with a focus on international political economy), alongside additional training on resilience and trauma. Helgi is a past board member of Studio 180, a Toronto theatre company that focuses on social impact and innovation in education. When she’s not working in legal and professional services, Helgi teaches dance-based movement for physical resilience.
